Changes in latitude

We

Sweet college girl joined me on a business trip to Orlando over her winter break from school.
It was so nice to have a companion while I traveled and considering my broken bones it was really helpful to have her join me.

The weather was chilly for Florida but that did not keep college girl out of the pool (it was heated).
I even sat in the hot tub for a bit.  It was so relaxing!

The number one must see was Harry Potter at the Universal Studios theme park.
The whole Harry a Potter area of the park was amazing!  Sweet daughter read the entire series 5 times and has it memorized.  She said they nailed it!

I wasn't able to go on the crazy roller coaster so college girl went by herself, front row!
We ate lunch at the 3 Broomsticks and tried the famous butter beer.

The rest of the theme park as just so/so.
I did enjoy the gardens and plants.

We spent a couple hours by the pool resting after the long day at the park.
The pool had an outdoor bar with a happy hour margarita so I enjoyed one while soaking up some rays and knitting.  It was chilly so no swimming.
The sun was shining and the palm trees were green so we did not mind the chill.
I bundled up with my color affection shawl.
We stayed at a Springhill Suite by Seaworld and loved our room.

It had Japanese style bathroom with separate room for shower and toilet.
We loved the pocket doors.  Sweet daughter explained that the Japense think it is gross to shower in the same room as the toilet.  Interesting, I did not know that.

The next day we were off to the magic kingdom
Another chilly day and I looked ridicules!
It is hard to not smile all the time at the Magic Kingdom
We went on all the old standbys and enjoyed it all!

The parades were fun!
After the day at the park we took the monorail to the Grand Floridian.

It was a beautiful hotel with a band playing.
This is on the bucket list!
Even the ceiling was a sight to see.

We had a great time and it was so nice to spend a couple days in the warmer climate with my daughter.
We had to catch at 7am flight the next day.
Lots of coffee in the airport!

Family updates and random stuff

Sweet college girl is becoming a self made seamstress and I couldn't be prouder!
She is working on a costume and sewing without a pattern, just piecing together fabric and using the dress form she received for Christmas. She even put in zippers unassisted.

I added a few vintage laundry clip arts to my laundry room frame.

Slowly and slightly painfully knitting a shawl.  I love the color of this yarn.  Hopefully my knitting will be easier in a week or so.

While on the mend I have enjoyed watching all of the football games.  One of my favorite football snacks is cheese, apples and almonds.  One of my favorite cheese is herb goat cheese with drizzled honey.  Give it a try!

The kids are off from college and it has been fun hanging out with them.  They've been a big help as I mend too.

Slow and steady wins the race

Slow and steady is my progress of healing since my surgery 6 days ago.  My finger swelling has gone down which has enabled me to knit more and spin a little.

The speedy recovery must be from the many encouraging gifts, meals and support of friends and family that called, texted and emailed me.  It is so nice to be loved.

I am starting to get a little cabin fever so I had a couple outings today.  I drove for the first time, piece of cake!

I treated myself to a pedicure and tried a little toe art for the first time. Winter is fact a fun time to go a little crazy with color as no one sees my toes.

Dear hubby and I went to our nephew's wrestling meet.  It was fun to watch him out on the mat.

Now on to fiber goodness:

I am working on this shawl.  It is Susan B Anderson 50 Row Shawlette.  It is hard to caste on with my cast so this was a good project to start, only 3 stitches to start.  I knit a row or two and put it down.  Purling is the most painful but I guess I've always felt that way about the purl stitch.

I tried out a little spinning today and I am delighted that I could spin with very little pain! I am so glad I have a woolie winder which allows me to no have to stop and start much.

I go back to work on Monday, followed by a business / pleasure trip to a warmer destination.  I will plan to blog about that trip and hopefully have some weaving and a smaller cast in my future posts!
