The Last Rose of Summer

Here are my last roses of summer.

They are beautiful!

other end of the summer garden items
Rosemary is looking awesome, should I try to pot it up for the winter? any ideas on how?

Love the hydrangeas I am drying and the lavender is lovely this time of year.
I hate to see the end of Summer but Fall is my favorite season so bring it on, bring on the orange, gold and yellow color, bring on the smell of campfires, pumpkin and cider, bring on the cool crisp gotta wear a jacket weather. And bring on the football!!!!!!!

I have no idea what I am doing!

Today I tackled two things that I have never tried before. Please leave advice comments if you have suggestions on this stuff!

First, I washed part of a 1/2 fleece.

I put parts of this bag into zippered mesh bags and washed them in very hot soapy water, a few times over, then rinsed and spun in the dryer.

ewwww what dirty water. The puppies loved the smell.
Then I laid them out to dry on the table on the deck.

Next, I used up much of my basil in my garden to make pesto. OK, so I have had pesto in restaurants but I really am not sure what to use this stuff for, so please leave a comment with ideas.
I am thinking bread, pasta and maybe soup?

I put it in these little containers to freeze.

It's beginning to feel like Fall!

I decorated a little for Fall yesterday. Fall is my favorite time of year! I love the colors, the smells and the sports of Fall. My wedding anniversary is in the Fall and so it my birthday. I usually decorate in three stages, early Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving.

I just love this little chair that I bought at an antique store in MO. I should probably put a fresh coat of paint on it next spring.

Homecoming weekend

We started the weekend by taking a little vacation time to attend the homecoming parade. Sweet daughter marched with the color guard. For some really dumb reason Prairie does not let the football team be part of the parade so dear son was not in the parade. It was a beautiful day and the band sounded great.

The football game was fun with all of the fireworks and traditional burning of the "P". Dear hubster and I worked the concession stand during the Varsity game and that was a really bad experience but I want to keep this on a positive note so I won't "go there".

Dear son's team lost 20 - 21, he had a great interception and some good tackles.

It is hard to believe this is sweet daughter's last high school homecoming dance! She had a few friends over and her date before the dance.

The dress is so pretty, the pictures do not do it justice. They had a great time! Dear son was on the fence on whether he would go and he got out the door without me getting his picture.

Holy Fiber Bat man!

My First Fleece!!!!

Iowa City girl went to Wisconsin Sheep fest last weekend, I really wanted to go too but had a family commitment that kept me away. Well, she cheered me up by buying a fleece, she has 1/2 and I have 1/2. It is Polypay. I am waiting for a nice day so I can wash it. Right now it is really greasy and smells like a barn. It is beautiful and the staple length is as long as about 6 inches! I am dreaming of a beautiful cable cardigan in this lovely fleece. I am so blessed to have such a nice friend - thank you JG, you are the best!

Speaking of fiber, this wonderful chili has 9 grams of fiber per serving!

Thanks to Shelley for sharing this awesome recipe!

Movie Review

Found time to watch a few movies in the last 2 weeks.

The whole family watched Date Night. There were some parts that weren't family material which kind of surprised me since it was rated PG-13. My kids are certainly old enough to watch PG-13. It was funny and not a waste of time. I give it a B-

Sweet daughter and I watched Last Song. We've determined the book was better but the movie was good. It moved a little slow in some parts. I give it a B-.

Little Miss Sunshine has been out for a while and we just never got around to watching it. Sweet daughter and I watched it last weekend. Sweet daughter loved it, especially the end. It was quirky, weird and entertaining. I give it a solid B.

First Home Game

The football season home opener was last night. Dear son had a good game, except that he got hurt and had to sit out the second half.

He is number 80

I uploaded You Tube video of an interception that he had when he hurt his knee and ankle. It is later in this blog.

Here he is on the cot getting worked on by the physical therapy people.
The team lost in a heartbreak ending when the opponent ran for a touch down in the last seconds of the game.

Sweet daughter is in color guard again this year. She is a color guard captain. The band is doing music to Disney's Lion King and Tarzan. I posted a video on this blog too of a song where they do a really cute monkey dance.
