Heather Hoodie off my needles!

I finished the heather hoodie! I was just waiting for some buttons that I ordered from Jimmy Bean to arrive. I really like the hoodie, the pattern was super fun to knit. The only thing I don't like is the hood in the front seems to lay kind of wonky. I hoped blocking would solve the issue but it didn't. I still like it and I will wear it but if I make another one I will want to figure out how to get the collar to lay more flat. Yeah me, I really think I will get a lot of wear out of this little sweater!

On my sewing machine - almost

With the holidays over I have found some extra time to do some of the things I love the most. I spent most of Sunday in my sewing room working on sweet daughter's graduation quilt.

I cut out most of the flowers that will be used in the French Rose quilt.

Wrigley enjoyed napping on the bed in my sewing room, dreamily opening his eyes every now and then to make sure I was still there and then going back to sleep again.

Ahhhh, it was bliss to have time in my sewing room with my favorite dog.

blocking like watching a teen ager

Gigi from the Knit More Girls
has a great quote. "Blocking it like watching a teen ager sleep, you just see the potential". So, I was really disappointed before blocking because the neck seemed really weird with the heather hoody, with a lot of fabric at my neck. Hopefully the blocking will take care of the issue.

Fiber fun and the parrot resort

Iowa City girls and I took a trip to where the black top ends to pick up some processed fleece.

We went to High Prairie Fiber and really enjoyed our visit with Abi and learning all about how she processes fiber.

This is what a washed fleece looks like when she starts.

She runs it through 2 machines and it turns out into beautiful roving that can then be spun into yarn.

Here are the machines she uses. Her operation is in a straw building which is covered with plaster and it is heated with a corn using a corn furnace.

Abi's husband runs the Iowa Parrot rescue
When we first pulled up I thought the sign said Iowa Parrot Resort! Actually it is like a resort for the birds, it was an amazing operation. He had something like 80 birds. Some of which came from drug dealers, it was sad to hear about the birds that were exposed to drugs.

The van was full of fleece, more than 3 bags full!
It was a delightful day and I can not wait to go back and visit again. It sounds like there may be some dyeing in the future trip!

Wow, look at all of the spinning we can work on this winter!
