Quilting friends in need is a friend indeed

A quilting friend in need is a friend indeed.
I say this because this quilt is all about friends.

I put this quilt top together while in Door county with my good friend Jackie. See the post here. My friend Laurie loaned me her pattern to make the quilt. She also shipped the quilt top with her quilts to a quilter in MO. Then she put the binding on for me while I was resting from surgery! See what I mean, I have some GREAT friends.

I backed it with Minkee. I just love the way it feels. The binding pulled it all together. By the way, Laurie helped me pick out this dynamite green fabric.

The quilter did an excellent job mimicking the flower pattern in the fabric.
This quilt is for sweet daughter's room. DH is going to paint it in the blue color while listening to the Wrestling nationals in March. I am also working on a matching valance. I have a cute surf board sticker and hibiscus flowers for her walls. I will post pictures of her new room when done.

Pets R Us

Thought I would give an update on the pets.
Freckles is still not used to having Wrigley in the house. She finds places to sleep where she can observe everything going on with out Wrigley finding her.

Annie is doings fine, slowing down some and still enjoying eggs on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Kodi is doing great. He loves playing with Wrigley and it is really cool to see how he teaches Wrigley the house rules, like "don't chase the cat".

Wrigley is adorable. I am so happy we had the weak moment in December and bought the little guy. He has so much personality.

This picture is kind of fuzzy but I am putting it in to show how Wrigley likes to sleep in his crate even when he doesn't have to. We are big advocates of crate training, for the safety of the dog and for potty training. It is nice to have a crate for them when company comes over the doesn't like dogs or is afraid of dogs (although most of our friends and everyone in our family loves dogs). Wrigley will go in to his crate just a nap, he loves it. We put a little blanket over it so it is even more like a den.

Valentine's day - dinner and a movie

We enjoyed dinner and a movie at home for Valentine's day. Dear hubby has a horrible cold and I am still recovering from surgery so a quiet night at home was just the ticket.

We watched Appaloosa for the movie. It was OK, not terrific, kind of a boring end.

For dinner we had salad with blue cheese dressing, steak, baked potatoes and chocolate cake. I created this recipe for Blue Cheese Dressing.
It turned out pretty good. If you like Blue Cheese, give it a try.

Sweet daughter made the cake with a mix. It was a Pillsbury low sugar chocolate cake and none of us could tell the difference. She did a great job.

choir

Sweet daughter had a choir concert on Thursday. I was very sad to not be able to attend, my back is not ready for sitting that long. Dear husband went and he said it as a very good concert. She looks so cute in her choir robe.

big lap dog

Kodi still thinks he is a lap dog but dear hubby does not seem to mind.

Feeling a bit spoiled

I am feeling very spoiled and loved by all of the kind thoughts, emails, phone calls, cards, gifts and food that family, friends and co-workers have given to me and my family while I have been recovering from back surgery. So thoughtful. Wow! Thank you to all of you who were so thoughtful and for the phone calls, e-mails to check in on me. I really appreciate it. Hopefully 3 more weeks and I will back to 100%.

New recipes

I am starting to feel more like my old self again and back to cooking for my family.

I made these yummy brownies from Bakerella blog last week, oh they were good.

One of my old stand-by recipes is indoor bbq chicken The recipe calls for just chicken thighs but my family likes white meat and legs best so I mix it up.
