Junior Prom

Dear son and sweet Iowa City Girlfriend getting ready to go to Dear Son's junior prom.
She is so pretty and he is so happy, love that smile that he is showing off, new smile without braces.

Last night was Dear Son's Junior prom. It was fun to see all the kids dressed up at the Grand March.  This is the first time we've been to the Grand March because sweet daughter was "not a believer" in the process of grand march.  I thought it was really fun and a neat way to get parent involved.  Here is the video of when they introduced dear son and date, I didn't hit the record fast enough to get the whole introduction but considering I am now putting this on the Internet it is OK with me that names are not included.  The group of kids went to dinner, the dance  and then to post prom. It was a fun, late night.  Algebra test for dear son on Monday so apparently the Algebra teacher has no sympathy for those that party all night.

baseball in the cold and in the dome

Spring baseball has started.  We spent one Sunday in the UNI dome watching Caleb try out for a show case and camp this winter.  Thank goodness for my knitting, it helped me sit quiet and observe.  The outdoor spring baseball games have been hit and miss (pun intended), as far as the weather.  Today it was rain, 45 degrees and cold.  The team is still working out the kinks and should be ready when the high school season begins.

on the needles and off the sewing machine

Blogger has a new interface so please give me time to get used to this before thinking my blogging has gone down hill.  Why is it everything has to change?

I've been working on a cable cardigan sweater.  It is out of Miss Bab's Wowza yarn.  So far I love the pattern.
I also finished a baby quilt for little Johnston Great-nephew

I put minky on the back of this little baby quilt and I think it made if very snuggly!

He is so cute, I think he loves the quilt!  Look how cute! Pretty sure he has genes from our side.

Retreat weekend

I enjoyed a fun weekend retreat in Dubuque Iowa. creme brulee kit. Watch for future posts about this wonderful dessert,
It was fun to sew, quilt, knit and spin. Wrigley tried to help when I got home.

The retreat center is so welcoming, single bedrooms and great meals, It is so quiet in the hills of Dubuque. Maybe being surrounded by acres of cemetery is part of it?

Easter

We enjoyed Easter weekend with college girl's Canadian guest. It was fun to watch hockey
with him and get to know him more. The Easter Bunny visited our house, yes even teen age kids get Easter baskets at our house. We also enjoyed a nice brunch athttp://www.crwine.com/ Cedar Ridge Winery outside of Swisher. It was a beautiful in day in Iowa and the rolling hills of grape vines made it feel more like Napa Valley than Eastern Iowa.

you might be a redneck

Sweet College Girl and Canadian College boy joined us for some mushroom hunting on grandpa's land in Eastern Iowa over Easter break.
The "farm" is off of miles of gravel roads and you pretty much have to bush wack to get the coveted mushrooms. Canadian college boy is from Vancouver and I think the whole idea of hunting through the timber for mushrooms may have been a new experience for him.

I have a hard time spotting them. They guys love eating them fried in butter.
For Dear Hubby and myself the "farm" is a place to relax and take in nature. On the way there we saw a wood chuck, several turkey and two deer. The quiet when you get out there is undeniable, the refreshed spirit when you leave is, as well.

teen age kids...

For those of you that do not have teens or may never have teens, the whole success of parenting (in my opinion ) is the art of being flexible. Plans to not stay solid like for adults so you totally need to go with the flow. Dear Son's baseball game was cancelled today due to weather. With that we had kids at our house, dear son's totally adorable girlfriend whom we just met, and a yard full of neighbor kids. We threw some burgers on the grill. The burgers turned out great, dear hubby is the true Grill-Master with charcoal. Dear hubby also suggested putting out the baggo game and games in the yard with friends. His ideas saved the day.

Spring is soooo early

Spring is about 1 month early and except for the ticks I am not complaining. I love the burst of color against the winter slumber that is starting to green up. We are picking asparagus already, usually read end of April, start of May. Same thing with wild morels.

A day at Fae Ridge

I enjoyed a wonderful day at the Fae Ridge farm and yarn shop on Saturday. It is the season of having babies on the farm and I got to hold this baby Mohair goat, she was born on Monday so just 5 days old! She was so sweet, I wanted to snuggle her all day. We enjoyed spinning, chatting and looking at all of the other farm animals such as sheep, lama and chickens. Janette has an awesome organic farm and grows herbs for the New Pioneer Coop in Iowa City. She is a treat to hang out with.
