Easily distracted by cute fabric

I had planned on spending the weekend doing homework for my Astronomy class.... but... I was distracted by this adorable kit and worked on it instead. Isn't it so darn CUTE! I might tea dye it because it looks a little stark for my decor.

I go to Binghamton NY for a business trip tomorrow. I think astrology homework in the hotel is in the "stars" for me.

Winter Ball

Rockwell had their winter ball on Saturday. Ken and I had a great time. Here we are all dressed up.

California Dreaming on such a Winters day

The high on Saturday at my house was 3 below, YES, 3 BELOW ZERO! For this weekend's post, I am going to do some California Dreamin' and post pictures from Bailey and my trip to San Diego in November. We went to San Diego to attend my niece's wedding and to visit my good pal Janell and her family.

Laura and Neal got married in Del Mar, overlooking the ocean. It was a beautiful wedding and the weather was perfect!

We enjoyed shopping in Carlsbad........

A wonderful trip to San Diego zoo!

We took the train to Old Town for an afternoon of fun!

The train ride was a perfect way to get to Old Town! Janell thought of everything to make our visit perfect!

Jena and Amy taught Bailey how to surf -

All Good stories must come to an end, this is what we came home to on Thanksgiving day...................
California Dreamin' on such a winters day....

How spoiled are your pets?

Our pets are so spoiled. Freckles begs to drink out of the faucet and we let her!

Annie and Kodi have eggs every Saturday and Sunday morning. If Ken gets out of bed before me, the dogs will march upstairs to wake me up, then they sit by the stove and beg for their eggs. Here is Annie waiting very nicely while I fry her eggs on Sunday morning.

spinning yarn

I took a spinning class from Janet at Fae Ridge Farms. My yarn turned out pretty bulky and bumpy but I really enjoyed it. Someday when I have more time, I will buy a spinning wheel. Right now with working many hours, taking classes at Upper Iowa and taking care of my family I have no time for a new hobby. Here is a picture of the yarn, it was spun with sheep and goat that Janet raises. If you ever make it to Iowa City, her farm and shop is fun to visit.

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

We've all become addicted to the Wii at our house. Here is a video of Caleb bowling. It is so fun!

what's for dinner mom?

I made a nice pot of soup today, vegetable, beef and barley. I let it stew for about 3 hours while I worked on Caleb's bullseye quilt. So far I have 1/2 of the blocks done! I watched Green Bay win which was nice, Brett Farve is just the best!

whats for dessert Mom? Triple Berry Crisp

here is a yummy recipe that I made for dessert. Ken and I are both watching what we eat and trying to work out daily, this is a good sweet that doesn't ruin the waist line. Caleb loved it too!

Is it an Eagle or Is it a hawk?

Bailey and I volunteered at the animal shelter today and on the way we saw this big bird. There were a lot of bald eagles flying around and I think this is an immature bald eagle. I could tell because he was teasing all of the other bald eagles. Bailey is certain he is a hawk and not an eagle at all. what do you think?
Bailey and I enjoyed working at the shelter, although I did worry about bringing home "cooties" to my furry kids. We walked dogs and then cleaned the "cat house". The "cat house" has all the old cats, some of which are ferrel cats that have never been with humans, so sad. One cat was very crabby and we left her alone rather than risk getting clawed or chomped.
I came home and gave my pets all hugs, I am so lucky to have them and they are so lucky to be in loving homes.

Knitted hat

I knitted this red knitted hat for Caleb, it is made with merino wool and according to Caleb, it is very very warm. The pattern came from the book One Skein Wonders and was an easy hat to make, I am not sure if I like the bottom edge though.

They get it from their Dad

Caleb received a guitar for Christmas so he and Bailey put on this performance for us.

Happy New Year 2008!

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! My prayers are for peace for our country, safety for our troops, good grades for my children, health and happiness for my family and friends. Including my furry family, Kodi, Annie and Freckles.

what was on my needles.........

OK, so I was excited about starting a new project over my break and read over the instructions a couple times and casted on. Everything was looking great until I was about 1/3 into my project and realized I was suppose to increase 8 times every 3 rounds, not 4 times every 3 rounds so ................ I frogged........ Before I frogged, this is what my project looked like, along with what the pattern looks like. I bought this kit at a cute shop in Omaha while there for my son's baseball.

What's on my sewing machine?

Bulls eye quilt, pattern from Country Threads. This will go on Caleb's bed when done. It is made with homespuns and after all the circle blocks are made, they will be cut into 4ths, mismatched and sewn back together.

What's on my needles?

Socks, yarn is ToFutsies, they have crab shells in the yarn which is suppose to be good for your feet, antibacterial and helps heal.
