don't ask

don't ask because I really do not know what this is about, I've heard there is a YouTube video involved.............. crazy teenagers

Spring Garden

I planted a few pots this weekend, nothing super fancy, just geraniums and wave petunias. I tried to experiment more with containers.

I just love this lilac tree. Dear husband gave it to me for mothers day a few years back and it is just lovely.

The iris from Shelley (Thanks Shelley) are thriving! She gave me some that she divided probably 5 years ago and they look so nice this year.

The columbine is so fun, many different colors, some I've grown from seed and some from Shelley! A gardening friend in need is a friend in need!

Mother's day

I enjoyed a very nice mother's day. Dear Hubby made me french toast and sausage for breakfast and we went on a picnic. The plan was to get a lunch from New Pioneer and then out to Kent Park (county park) for a picnic. While by New Pioneer I planned to stop at Crazy Girl for some yarn. On the way to Kent Park my hope was to grab some caribou coffee, my favorite part is the chocolate covered espresso bean.

well, things didn't go quite as planned. Crazy girl was closed, New Pi was packed and Caribou Coffee forgot the choc covered bean.
We improvised and went to Hy Vee. We put everything out for a nice picnic, table cloth and all. Before we could take our first bite, a swarm, I mean millions, of little black biting bugs attacked us.

So we improvised again, grabbed all of our goodies and ate in the van.

After that we took a nice walk around the lake. Very few bugs there, thank goodness.

I am so blessed to be the mother of my two fine kids. They are kind, sweet, smart and grateful.

New recipes

I tried a couple new recipes last weekend. The first is ribs on a smoker. I bought a used smoker from a guy at work. It is perfect, cheap, seasoned and great for a beginner like me. My first attempt was ribs. I used a dry rub with brown sugar, garlic, paprika, salt and pepper. Let it sit for a couple hours, then smoked it for 3 hours, finished off in the oven with bbq sauce. I ran out of time so next time I will plan more time in the smoker. The taste was really great!

I tried a new recipe for cinnamon rolls. (click on the words cinnamon rolls that are underlined to get to the recipe) This is published in Midwest living. They were great, I recommend. A great way to doctor up frozen cinnamon rolls.

I hear you knocking but you can't come in......

After taking a long walk, Wrigley decided to cool off in some freshly laid compost. We had taken a break between laying compost and laying mulch.

A bath in the sink was his next stop!
