O' Christmas Tree

We woke up to our first snow in Eastern Iowa this morning. It was a perfect day to get our Christmas tree. Dear Husbands nice boss gave us a gift certificate to Quail Ridge Tree Farm in Robins, what a thoughtful gift!

The snow looked so pretty on the trees going down the lane to the Christmas Tree farm.

Sweet Daughter and dear husband looked for the perfect 2008 Davison tree. (Poor dear son was home resting his leg from a basketball injury)

Dear husband looks very handsome in his

Daughter and hubby cut down the tree and hauled it back to the truck. A fine job and a perfect day to pick out a tree. let the season begin!

knitted stocking cap ornaments

I've been working on these cute little stocking caps this weekend. Many of my neighbors are "RABID" Iowa Hawkeye fans and I think these will looks sweet on cookie trays or other little goodies that I share with them for the holidays. They will all be in chipper spirits this year since it looks like the Hawks will go to a good bowl.

They are really fun to knit and out of the magazine Knit Simple.
I will of course make a few ISU colored ones, even though they did not have such a great year, for Dear Husband's mans tree in the basement and I plan to make cream and red for vintage looking tree.

Boo and Freckles

Here are a couple of sweet pictures of my daughter and our kitty Freckles. She was getting dressed up to go to the movie Twilight. She has read all 3 books and was very excited about going with friends to the movie.

Finally finished a project!

I finally finished a project! It feels so good to be back in the groove and to have broken the creative slump.

The creative slump started a few weeks ago when my old faithful Pfaff's computer crashed on me. With it in the sewing machine shop, I figured it would be OK, as I have my trusty needles to keep me occuppied. The problem continued when everything thing I tried to knit had gauge or pattern challenge problems. I ripped and ripped and started over for two weeks. Finally I found a pattern that I can handle, the perfect yarn and knitting bliss!

These fingerless mitts were quick, fun and KEY-UTE! (if I do say so myself)

They are knit from the Suri merino that I bought in Cable, Wisconsin. I knitted a scarf out of the yarn and had enough yarn left (plus some!) for the fingerless mitts.

The pattern is out of One-Skein Wonders.

Dear son played in the jazz band the other evening. Wow it is amazing how great 8th graders play jazz!

14th b-day

Dear son had a wonderful 14th birthday. He invited 5 friends for a sleep over last Friday and they enjoyed playing video games and watching movies.

One of the movies we watched on Sunday night, Leatherheads it was really good.

Late Fall garden

Today was a beautiful day in Eastern Iowa, the temp rose to the 70's. I took a few moments to enjoy the colors of Autumn in my yard.
I bought this sugar maple for $12 (end of the year sale) at Bloomsbury farm 4 years ago, what a buy! It looks wonderful!

I found the cute star at Des Moines Farmer's market a few weekends ago.

Annie and Kodi are enjoying the sunshine while shadowing me in the yard.

The clump birch is really showing off it's bark. Dear Husband and I planted this as 3 separate birch bought from a discount store for $7 dollars each and clumped them ourselves 5 years ago.

The mums are nearing the end of the season, I plan to plant them in my beds when their work is done on the front porch.

Piano

Sweet daughter has been taking piano lessons since she was 6 years old, she has been with her current teacher for most of those years. here is her fall piano recital.
