Time flies when you are..........

Sorry it has been a little while since my last blog. You see, I've been busy.... very busy.

In reverse order the last 2 weeks.

Sweet daughter's Prom

Getting ready for Prom

Hair done, it took a couple tries to get just the "right look". Sweet daughter likes simple, elegant styles.
I watched closely, I think next year with a little patience, I can handle the hair.

Make up

Since sweet daughter rarely, maybe twice a year, wears makeup we decided to let a pro do her make up. They did a great job, just a little sparkle but still very natural looking.

I think with the right brushes and again, patience I can handle that next year too.

Here is sweet daughter with her prom date and friends.
Cute boy

I volunteered at after-prom. The after-prom goes from 11:30pm - 5am. I worked from 11 - about 2am. Sweet daughter came home at 5am when the birds were signing. They had a hypnotist at 4am. She had a pretty good time. Next year we will know more on what to expect.

The theme of after-prom was Hollywood nights.
so that is one weekend.

I made a great salsa, will post the recipe soon and will update this post with the link.

Wrigley is still the cutest dog in the world.

I did a little spinning, tried out some alpaca and it took several attempts before I could spin it. I will post pictures next time.

Dear son had a band solo the weekend before last.

Sweet daughter performed a singing solo the same Saturday.

I made the kids pose for a couple snapshots while they were still dressed up.

I am very proud of them.

Baseball games were squeezed in to the weekends.

A tennis match or two was squeezed in, as well.

So now you know why I haven't had time to update my blog!
Hopefully the next couple weeks will slow down a little so I will have time to garden a little, knit a little, sew a little, spin a little and sip some lemonade.

early Spring garden and fiber

Dear son is working off some x-box live debt by helping me in the garden. This weekend
he helped me dig up one raised bed and replant it with strawberries and pansies.

Saturday I enjoyed a great day with the weavers and spinners of Iowa Federation. They hosted an excellent speaker on primitive sheep and several vendors.
I found some wonderful alpaca to spin.

and some llama and CVM wool. oh boy, can't wait to get spinning!

movie review

We watched Princess Frog last weekend. We really enjoyed it BUT if you have kids less than maybe 6 or 7 I would not recommend. It had scary scenes with demon's that I think would freak out little kids.

Really enjoyed the Morgans. Very cute premise and kept our interest throughout.

OK. George is cute but this movie was awful. I have not found a movie yet that he has done that I really enjoyed. Please comment if you have one that I might enjoy.

Whip it was way off from my normal pick in a movie. It kept my interest though and I would recommend it. Makes me want to get my old roller skates out of the garage.

Easter

We were the host for dear hubbies side for Easter on Saturday. I made spiral cut glazed ham, cheesy potatoes and deviled eggs. The rest of the in-law clan brought the trimmings. It was a fun day and nice to do on Saturday which gave us all day Sunday to relax, just the four of us.

I decorated my table with some of my favorite Easter decorations. The tablecloth is battenburg lace, my Dad bought it for us many years back as a gift, I think for my birthday.

I started collecting little chick salt and pepper shakers many years ago. I used to have about 5 sets of them. When my children were small they played with them too rough and all but 2 sets were chipped and broken. I just love these 2 sets that are left and since I bought them all very cheap (pun intended) I don't mind that the kids broke them because hopefully they have a memory of these cute little salt and pepper shakers.
Another favorite item are some very small vases that I use for flowers all spring and summer.

My Father-in-law is looking spry with his beautiful three grand-daughters by his side. The boys were downstairs playing xbox and not interested in pictures yesterday.

The Easter bunny visited our house on Easter. It is amazing what he finds for teenagers. New Moon videos, Gaia and barnes & noble gift cards for girls. Batting helmets and fishing tackles for boys. Of course lots of candy too!

Drivers license = Freedom!

Sweet daughter finally passed her driving test with the Iowa DOT on Saturday!

Do you remember the feeling you had the first time you drove without your parents? I am so happy for her but also kind of scared!

Her first solo drive was with her sweet cousin from Maqouketa. The drove over to the high school tennis courts to play some tennis while everyone was at our house for Easter.

Here they are backing out of the driveway, successfully missing dear hubby's brother big truck!

and down the road they go, no wave or honk, just nose in the air hitting the road, C YA attitude. I think I just felt a gray hair pop, is that possible?!

UNI Campus Tour

Dear hubby and I took vacation days on Good Friday to go with our daughter on a campus tour at UNI (University of Northern Iowa). This is the second campus tour sweet daughter has attended. She decided on visiting UNI because she is thinking of teaching but still very undecided and it is far enough away from home to feel like she is away at school. She has several other universities and colleges to visit in Iowa before she decides where to attend. She may decide to stay at home for the first year and attend Kirkwood to save some money and determine what she really wants to major in before determining where to get her bachelors degree from. I've realized that living with a teenager you need to go with the flow and live in the moment so I am trying really hard to just see how everything plays out. This very hard for someone like me who really likes having everything under control and planned.

The rec center at UNI was really nice. This is where we started our tour. The water slide and climbing wall caught my eye.

The UNI-dome was hosting a wrestling tournament, I wasn't sure if we would get dear husband to attend the rest of the tour when we saw what was going on as he loves sports!

This is right outside the art building. They have a rotating sculpture garden showing students art work. Very peaceful place to study.

There was a big difference between UNI and Upper Iowa (of course), the tour was much larger and not nearly as many gifts.

We toured classrooms, attended a talk by the college sweet daughter is interested in, toured a dorm room and ended the tour with a lunch in the dinning rooms.

I love this picture. It shows so well that sweet daughter is very excited about college and dear hubby is not quite sure about his daughter growing up, paying tuition, his daughter growing up..... well the picture speaks a thousand words!
We were caught in a terrible rain on the way to our car and we were soaked to the bone. Besides that it was a great day and we were all very impressed with UNI. The pro and cons list has started!
